Why I love being a Filoli Photographer
As a Bay Area maternity, family, and newborn photographer, Filoli is one of my favorite locations to photograph growing families. The grounds offer a peaceful, natural setting that changes beautifully with the seasons, making it ideal for maternity photography and family sessions.
I’ve been photographing my own family here for years. Filoli is a familiar stop on our weekly “adventure days.” My children love to explore the walled garden, search for newly blooming flowers, collect sticks and rocks along the paths, and finish our visits with a scone from the café. It’s a place filled with personal memories—and that sense of ease and connection carries into my sessions.

The gardens were stunning as always, beautifully decorated for the holidays. The soft winter light, seasonal greenery, and festive details created a warm, timeless backdrop for Stephany and Jan’s session.
Their four-year-old daughter had a blast running ahead of us, exploring the gardens with the same curiosity I see in my own children. Filoli is a wonderful location for maternity and family photography because it allows children space to move, explore, and simply be themselves.
