There are sessions that just feel easy from the moment you walk in the door. This was one of them.
Julian’s parents welcomed me into their sun-filled San Francisco home with the kind of calm, warm energy that immediately tells you everything about how a session is going to go. First time parents who were happy, present, and genuinely excited — not nervous, not overwhelmed, just completely and beautifully in it. It set the tone for everything that followed.
Meeting Julian — and Chloe
Julian was 2.5 months old at the time of our session — a little older than a traditional newborn session, which meant he was alert, expressive, and full of personality. He was also, blessedly, a good sleeper — which his parents delivered as news with the kind of quiet gratitude that only new parents truly understand.
And then there was Chloe.
Chloe, the family dog, had very clear opinions about this session. She wanted to be in every single photo. She wanted to be near Julian at all times. She greeted me with enormous enthusiasm and then promptly positioned herself as Julian’s personal guardian for the remainder of the morning. Every time I moved in close with the camera, there was Chloe — checking in, keeping watch, absolutely certain that her job was to supervise.
She was right. It was her job. And she was very good at it.

What an Older Newborn Session Looks Like
Julian’s session is a good example of something worth knowing — newborn photography doesn’t have a hard expiration date. The dreamy, curled-up sleepy newborn shots are most achievable in the first two weeks, but there is something genuinely special about photographing a baby at 2-3 months too. The personality starts to emerge. The eyes are more open and aware. The smiles — real ones, not just reflexes — start to appear.
Julian was awake for much of our session and it was perfect. His expressions, his tiny hands reaching, the way he looked at his parents — all of it was completely captivating and completely him.
If you missed the early newborn window, please don’t let that stop you from booking. Every stage is worth documenting and I am always happy to discuss timing and what’s possible.

In-Home Sessions in San Francisco
San Francisco homes have a particular character that I love to work with — high ceilings, beautiful light, the kind of architectural detail that becomes a backdrop without you even trying. Julian’s family had a home full of soft natural light that moved through the rooms in the most beautiful way throughout the morning.
In-home newborn sessions are always my preference for exactly this reason. Your home is already the right setting — familiar, personal, and completely yours. There’s no studio, no travel, no logistics. Just your family, your space, and me.
I serve new families throughout San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. If you’re expecting and based in the city — or anywhere in the Bay Area — I’d love to document those first days for you. You can also read more about what an in-home newborn session looks like and what to expect here.

A Note on Dogs at Newborn Sessions
Chloe was an absolute joy and a reminder of why I always say yes to dogs at sessions. Family pets are part of the family — full stop. They belong in these images. If you have a dog and you’re wondering whether to include them — include them. I am completely comfortable with pets and genuinely love working with them. I have a dog of my own! (And he was a part of our newborn sessions, twice.)
