Redwood City Newborn Photographer: A Football-Themed Nursery Session

This Redwood City newborn session was for the sweetest new teammate, two and a half months old and already surrounded by a nursery full of history.

Dad played football through college and went on to coach afterwards. Mom took that history and built a nursery around it, weaving the sports theme into nearly every detail in the room, not just a shelf of trophies in the corner. This room was already full of something the family loved, made just for him.

Inside This Football-Inspired Nursery

The football-inspired nursery was a meaningful tribute to Dad’s years of playing and coaching. But the nursery is just the (very lovely) backdrop. It’s always the family inside it I’m really there for.

A Baby-Led Newborn Session in Redwood City

Baby was wide awake when I arrived. Awake newborns give you a different kind of photo: alert little expressions, real eye contact, the first hints of personality. We took our time with it in their home, working around him instead of against him.

Partway through, he needed a feed and some rocking to settle, and that’s exactly how it should go. No newborn photography session runs on a strict timeline, and some of the sweetest photos came out of those pauses, including a few of him sleeping right on his mom. By the end of the session we had both the quiet, curled-up portraits to go with the wide-awake ones from earlier.

What Baby-Led Newborn Photography Looks Like

My sessions are baby-led, which means the session follows the baby’s actual mood instead of forcing a shot list. Before we ever meet in person, we talk through how the shoot will go: what to wear, what happens if the baby needs a feed or a nap mid-session, and which spots in the home will work best for photos. If there’s something specific you want captured, such as a nursery, tell me ahead of time so I can build the session around it.

Is Two and a Half Months Too Late for Newborn Photos?

Absolutely not.

This little guy was two and a half months old when we did his session, and we still captured his tiny features, wide-open expressions, nursery, and sweet moments with his parents. At this age, babies are often more alert and expressive than they are in those first few weeks, so the photographs simply look a little different.

Redwood City Newborn Photography FAQ

Do you photograph newborns in-home?

Yes. A lot of my newborn sessions happen right in the family’s home, which means no packing up a very new baby and no recreating a nursery in a studio. If you have a nursery, a favorite corner, or family heirlooms you want included, that’s exactly what I want to photograph.

What if the baby needs to eat or sleep during the session?

That’s built into how I work. Sessions move at the baby’s pace, with breaks for feeding, rocking, or settling whenever needed. Some of the best photos come out of those in-between moments.

Did I miss the window to book a newborn session?

No. The only “too late” is skipping the photos altogether. Newborn sessions can still be beautiful at two months, four months, and beyond. The photographs will simply look different as your baby grows—more eye contact, more expression, more interaction, and eventually more of a milestone or family-session feel. There’s no wrong time to reach out, and no guilt required. Postpartum asks a lot of you. Whenever you’re ready is the right time.

How soon after birth should we schedule a Redwood City newborn session?

Many clients schedule their newborn session within the first month. That said, I’m always happy to document your family at whatever point feels most comfortable for you, whether that’s two weeks or two and a half months. Every age brings something different: very young newborns tend to be tinier and sleepier, curling naturally into those classic newborn poses, while slightly older babies like this session’s little guy give you more eye contact and the first real hints of a smile. Neither is more or less “right,” just different, and both make for a beautiful gallery.
